Implant therapy provides the most natural replacement for missing teeth. However, complications can arise from a variety of sources including inadequate bone or soft tissue, peri-implant disease, as well as other technical issues. Understanding the etiology is paramount to managing the problem. This course will address the underlying etiologies to a variety of complications and discuss management of peri-implantitis as well as hard and soft tissue deficiencies.

Educational Objectives:

  • Identify the unique characteristics of the peri-implant microbiome.
  • Describe the implications of mechanical/surface contamination in peri-implant disease.
  • Review the steps involved in effective regenerative therapy around diseased implants.
  • List the techniques and timing involved in managing hard and soft tissue around implants.

Note: A limited number of second-year and third-year periodontal residents are eligible to receive an educational grant to cover their attendance at the AAP Annual Meeting, including participation in the Symposium. To qualify, residents are required to submit a letter of confirmation from their post-doctoral program directors verifying their status as second-year or third-year resident with their registration form or within 48 hours of an online application. The Symposium is also open to other registrants who wish to participate as part of full-meeting registration. Seating is limited. Be sure to register early for this popular session.

This session is supported by educational grants from the AAP Foundation and the Osteology Foundation.
