EV1: Conscious Sedation and the Periodontist

8.0 CE

This course is designed to provide an in-depth overview of the use of sedation in the periodontal practice. It will define and discuss the differences between minimal, moderate, and deep sedation and general anesthesia, as well as review the proper pre-assessment, monitoring, and care for all procedural phases of sedation. This class will include the identification of the dosages, actions, and complications of medications used during moderate sedation and the medications used to reverse them. Additionally, the identification and management of complications that can be encountered during sedation, such as oversedation, airway obstruction, and others will be considered.

 

Educational Objectives:

  • Perform comprehensive pre-moderate sedation assessments of patients.
  • Gain and apply the pharmacologic and procedural components of moderate sedation.
  • Identify and manage sedation complications and emergencies.
